How does BDOW! (formerly Sumo) calculate unique monthly visitors?
Not including service costs, instance costs, hardware costs, and other costs that are associated with data transferring, we are charged for bandwidth usage. That bandwidth includes, how many times BDOW! (formerly Sumo) is “requested” to be viewed on a page load. The unique number of visitors we use is per session/visitor per 30 minutes to be defined as a unique.
For example, last month you had 8,000 monthly unique views of your pages with BDOW! (formerly Sumo) installed. That would mean 8,000 unique visitors (sessions within a 30-minute interval) came to your website on pages with BDOW! (formerly Sumo) installed. This is a standard method for recording unique sessions.
We use the exact method here that is defined by Google Analytics:
This is exactly how we define a session/visit. A single user can open multiple sessions. Those sessions can occur on the same day, or over several days, weeks, or months. As soon as one session ends, there is then an opportunity to start a new session.
There are two methods by which a session ends:
Time-based expiration (including end of day)
After 30 minutes of inactivity
At midnight
