Ever wanted your Auto Response Emails to come directly from your own email address, making them unmistakably yours? Setting up a custom "From" address does exactly that. Plus, validating your domain improves the deliverability of emails, too!
While it sounds a bit technical, we're here to guide you through it step-by-step.
Validating your domain
First things first, you will need the ability to add a CNAME
record at your domain provider. Your particular registrar can help you out with the instructions, but they should have a method of adding new DNS records. We have links to instructions at some common registrars below.
Once you're ready to dive in, log into your BDOW! site manager, navigate to Settings, and select the Email tab.
Click Add Domain to start the configuration, enter your domain, and click Save Domain.
BDOW! will generate a set of three CNAME records. These are the records you must enter into your domain registrar's DNS manager tool.
A few notes about editing DNS records:
You may see
Host
andData
referred to asName
andValue
in your DNS editor. That's absolutely fine; it is the same information, but just labeled differently. Some DNS tweaks require a period at the end of the record name. Check with your provider to see if it is included automatically.
You may have to wait a little while for the DNS changes to propagate. It should happen fairly swiftly, but it could be as long as 24 hours depending on your registrar and TTL settings.
After you have saved the new DNS records at your domain provider, click the Validate button. BDOW! will check your domain's DNS settings and make sure everything is good to go.
Reviewing the validation settings
If you need to go back and check the CNAME records, you can always review the items by navigating to Settings and clicking the Email tab. This is useful if the validation failed, or perhaps you are switching domain providers.
Open the Custom Domain window by clicking the link in the Validated column.
