Once you have created a BDOW! (formerly Sumo) campaign form on your website, you will want to use your new subscriber emails to establish relationships and grow your business. While you can send emails using BDOW!, you may already be using a third-party email service provider to communicate.
BDOW! supports a variety of popular integrations so you can continue to leverage your communication platform of choice. We frequently update the list, so you can check the current integrations on the Settings > Integrations page. If your particular integration is unavailable, there are still some additional methods to share your subscriber data.
Configuring a direct integration
Note: If you setup a campaign form via one of our Shortcuts, the Email Service Provider integration has already been included in the setup editor of the Shortcut.
In order to connect BDOW! to a third party service, follow the steps below (we will be using Mailchimp as an example):
Log into the BDOW! site manager and navigate to Settings > Integrations.
Determine if you want to use BDOW! for Double opt-in, which adds an additional email verification step for subscribers to confirm their signup. This is not part of the integration, but it could affect the customer experience.
Since double opt-in is frequently implemented by service providers, the feature defaults to disabled (your new subscribers might not appreciate multiple confirmation emails). However, if you need BDOW! to handle the confirmation emails, you can turn it on.
Enable your desired Email Service Provider via the toggle and click Connect to begin. You can filter down if necessary.
Each integration may have a slightly different experience, but generally speaking you will enter some sort of credentials to establish a connection. Frequently, there is a popup window and sign in form. In our example Mailchimp integration, it is entering your Mailchimp username and password in the popup and then authorizing the connection.
While the options vary among email providers, the next step is to select a destination list to update or action to take. You may see options to push subscribers to a mailing list or drip campaign, or perhaps you can apply tags to subscribers. You may also see options to prevent actions. In MailChimp, for example, you can leave "-- Don't submit subscribers via a form --" as the selected option, and so BDOW! will not push any emails.
Your provider may also have the option to disable Double Opt-in. Since this is within the integration's settings, it works with opt-in on the provider side. When the setting is turned off (i.e., the toggle is on the left and gray), your provider is responsible for sending an opt-in verification. To tell your provider to skip the opt-in email, leave the setting toggled on.
Finally, click Save.
What if I want my campaign form to populate a different list?
The Connect to Email Service tab of the design tool allows you to modify the integration settings uniquely for each campaign form. Just toggle Override Global Settings and select a different mailing list.
Exploring additional integration options
If you don’t see your service available in our list of integrated services, we also provide the ability to connect via tools such as Zapier and FormSync, as well by custom forms.
Integrating via Zapier
While BDOW! may not have a direct integration with your email service provider, we do have an integration with Zapier. If your provider also has a Zapier integration, consider using Zapier as a bridge for passing subscriber data.
Building an integration through FormSync
FormSync allows you to take custom HTML from your email service provider and sync the fields with your BDOW! campaign form. Visitors will see your BDOW! popup, but their information will be mapped to your provider's fields under the hood.
See this article for instructions on how to configure FormSync.
Creating forms with custom HTML
Many third-party services will provide a method of creating a contact form, copying the HTML, and embedding it on your webpage. You can take this custom HTML and embed it in a BDOW! campaign form. Unlike with FormSync, the look and feel will be defined by the custom form rather than the BDOW! designer.
See this article for the details.
