How BDOW! cookies work

Learn how BDOW! cookies control form display and visitor interactions.

Written by Cassandra Campbell

BDOW! uses browser cookies to manage how forms are displayed to your website visitors. These cookies help ensure that forms appear when desired, remember when a visitor has already interacted with a form, and improve the overall visitor experience. Some cookies are also used to support your experience while managing your campaigns in the BDOW! web app.

Visitor cookies

Shown

The __smShown cookie is set when any of the campaign form types are shown on your website. If any of your forms are set to "Don't Show to a visitor until X days have passed" and BDOW! detects this cookie in the visitor's browser, the form will not be displayed again.

This cookie is unique to the form type will display in your browser cookie list like this:

  • __smListBuilderShown

  • __smSmartBarShown

  • __smScrollBoxShown

  • __smWelcomeMatShown

Opt-out

The __smOptOut cookie is set when a visitor clicks an "Opt-Out" button on any of the campaign forms as they are shown on your website. If you configured a campaign to "Hide From Users Who Opted Out" and BDOW! detects this cookie, then the form will not be displayed.

Like the *Shown variants, this cookie is unique to the form type:

  • __smListBuilderOptOut

  • __smSmartBarOptOut

  • __smScrollBoxOptOut

  • __smWelcomeMatOptOut

Subscribed

The __smSubscribed cookie is set when a visitor subscribes. This cookie is used to control the form's display when configured to "Not Show To Users Who Already Subscribed".

Management cookies

User

Unlike the cookies above, the __smUser cookie is not for visitors. Rather, it is set when you login to BDOW! and used for a smooth management experience.

Token

Similarly to __smUser, the __smToken cookie is set once you sign in to BDOW! and is checked to verify whether you are currently logged into the system.
