List Builder Trigger Modes

List Builder has two types of Trigger Modes:

  • Smart Mode (default)

  • Manual Timer Mode

These modes tell List Builder exactly how to trigger your Popup. By default, Smart Mode is used. Smart Mode will detect when visitors are about to leave the page and then causes your Popup to trigger. Manual Timer mode allows your popup to trigger after X seconds.

Smart Mode (default)

Smart Mode is the default trigger behavior for List Builder.

Smart Mode takes into consideration your users behavior and will appear if they are attempting to leave your site. If a user lands on a page but clicks on a link and traverses within your site, Smart Mode will not be triggered.

To test, open an Incognito/Privacy mode browser window, bring up a URL where you have a Smart Mode popup set to appear. Wait until the page fully loads, move your mouse up to the address bar and click.

Here's how to set it up:

  • Go into List Builder and select one of your popups

  • Click on step 4, Visibility, on the left

  • Make sure that "Mode" is set to "Smart"

  • Hit Save!

Manual Timer Mode

As the name suggests, Manual Timer Mode will allow you to select a predefined amount of time before your List Builder triggers. Once your page finishes loading, your Popup will trigger after the number of seconds you have set as your Manual Timer.

Here's how to set it up:

  • Go into List Builder and select one of your popups

  • Click on step 4, Visibility, on the left

  • Make sure that "Mode" is set to "Manual"

  • Select an amount of time (in seconds / minutes) before your Popup triggers

  • Select if a visitor hasn't seen a popup in "X" minutes, hours, days, months, or years.

  • Hit Save!
