Content Upgrades refer to any downloadable content you wish to provide to your visitors. You are not limited by file type and are only limited by the size of the file. We have a limit of 15 MB per file.
Depending on the needs of your campaign, BDOW! has several methods from which you can choose to implement Content Upgrades: Subscribe Success Redirects, Automatic Email Responses, and Click Actions.
Providing a Content Upgrade to new subscribers
If you are on the Pro or Plus plan, you can configure campaign forms to deliver Content Upgrades to new subscribers. Both Subscribe Success Redirects and Automatic Email Responses work this way.
Redirecting to the Content Upgrade
The first option, a Subscribe Success Redirect, immediately redirects the user to download the content (that is, they get redirected after you secure their email). This is a great way to quickly grant access to an eBook, for example.
In your Site Manager, open the campaign form you wish to edit (or create a new one) and go to the Design tab.
Select the submit button in your campaign form and ensure that the Submit Form option is selected in the Click Action dropdown.
Now proceed to the Success tab.
Under the Subscribe Success Redirect section, toggle the Download Content Upgrade option and click the Select Content Upgrade button to choose your file.
In the file selection dialog box, click Upload Your Media to store a copy of the file if you have not already done so.
Choose the content file and click Select to apply it to your campaign.
Delivering the Content Upgrade via email responses
The Automatic Email Response option adds a download link to the automated message that gets delivered to each new subscriber.
You can configure it on the Success tab of the campaign form designer. We created a pre-made template specifically for Content Upgrades to get you started—feel free to make it your own!
In the designer, open your campaign form for editing.
On the Design tab, select the button and ensure that it is configured to Submit Form.
Navigate to the Success tab of the design tool.
Under the Automatic Email Responder section, hover over the Add Email Response dropdown and select Content Upgrade Template.
Highlight the text you would like to convert into a clickable link, then use the Insert Content Upgrade button to select your media.
Remember to click Save Email when it is ready. For more information on setting up an auto-response email, see the dedicated help article.
Direct downloading with Click Actions
The last option is to directly trigger a download when a visitor clicks a button in your campaign form (or any other clickable element, such as an Image).
Unlike the methods described above, Click Actions do not require visitors to subscribe prior to delivery of the Content Upgrade. Note this also means the action will dismiss the form without collecting an email address, so we recommend removing the email field. If you wish to collect emails in your form, we recommend using one of the other two methods described in this article.
On the Design tab, select the button or element you wish to use as a trigger.
Set the Click Action to Download Content Upgrade.
Click the Select Content Upgrade button to open the file selection dialog and upload your media.
Click the Select button to apply the Content Upgrade.
Don't forget to save your campaign form!
What if my file is larger than BDOW! allows?
If you have a large file that you would like to make available, we recommend uploading it to a dedicated file hosting service. You can then configure your campaign forms to reference the file via URL.
